Must-Try Grapefruit Brulee

Grapefruit brulee is an simple dessert requiring only two ingredients: sugar and grapefruit.  With citrus season in full swing, the grapefruits are at their best, sweet and juicy.  The grapefruit halves are caramelized using a blow torch (available at the hardware store).  You can also place the grapefruit under the broiler for a couple of minutes to brulee the fruit.  The sugar crystallizes to create a golden brown crust that pairs perfectly with the tart grapefruit.  Finish this dessert with a dollop of whipped cream.  Grapefruit brulee is really that easy!

Grapefruit Brulee

1 pink or red grapefruit
1 tablespoon coarse sugar
Halve each grapefruit crosswise, and cut a thin slice off the bottom of each half to stabilize the pieces.
Remove all seeds from the grapefruit, and loosen the segments with a paring knife.
Sprinkle each half evenly with the sugar. Using a blowtorch, melt the sugar to form a golden brown and crispy surface.
Serve immediately.
